The design is taken from an Eritrean bank-note celebrating female freedom fighters. During my time in Eritrea I was fortunate to have worked with many female former freedom fighters and learned about the critical role they played in the more than a decade-long struggle for independence. The face cover combines the traditional veil used in many parts of Eritrea with protection against sand storms.
